(Please note: The projected numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in 2020 should not be compared with previous years to track cancer trends because they are model-based and vary from year to year for reasons other than changes in cancer occurrence. Age-standardized incidence and death rates should be used to measure cancer trends.)?
This year's?special section?profiles cancer in adolescents and young adults ages 15-39 years, including data on incidence, mortality, survival, and treatment and discusses some of the unique challenges affecting these patients. It is intended to inform anyone interested in learning more about cancers in this age group, including policy makers, researchers, clinicians, cancer control advocates, patients, and caregivers.
In 2020, there will be approximately 89,500 cancer cases diagnosed and about 9,270 cancer deaths in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) ages 15 to 39 years in the US. These patients are often grouped with younger or older patient populations, which masks important differences in cancer distribution, tumor biology, and survivorship.
This supplemental data set can be used as a resource for cancer control planning at the state level, as well as to address questions from the media or P站视频 (P站视频) constituents. P站视频 Regions are encouraged to share this information with staff and volunteers, and to use it with state and local officials, reporters, and other public health and advocacy groups in local communities.
